CONSULTING SERVICES

Applying for grants requires significant time and effort, so you want to be certain you will see results. Our methods maximize your chances for success.

We help nonprofits get funder-ready, identify promising funding opportunities, foster funder relations, and craft persuasive grant proposals.

GRANT READINESS PLANNING

A project planning toolkit is a document that outlines information about your organization and its funding needs. It illuminates areas that might need further development before being funder-ready. During a one-hour 30-minute session with you and your staff, we listen closely and ask thoughtful questions to draw out information funders often request on grant applications. The toolkit identifies any gaps in project planning that need attention, and it is an essential phase that gathers organization information for the next step—researching eligible funding opportunities.

FUNDING STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

A funding strategy acts as a roadmap detailing the grants your organization should pursue over the next 12 months. To create this roadmap, we begin with an initial search that yields over 100 funding opportunities. After confirming eligibility and considering alignment, we research competitiveness and past giving. This narrows the initial search results, identifying 10-15 recommended grants that offer the highest likelihood of success and return on investment. The funding strategy presents detailed information about these recommended grants that demonstrates why they are a good fit for your organization and offers strategic advice on the best approach to applications.

FUNDER OUTREACH SUPPORT

A prospectus is a one-page overview of your organization and what you want to get funded. It succinctly communicates to funders the problem you solve, your organization’s unique approach to solving it, and the impact of your programs. The prospectus is an efficient and impressive way to present your organization, setting you up for successful funder outreach so you can begin to develop a relationship—an essential step towards a successful grant application.

GRANT WRITING

We specialize in data-driven storytelling to write compelling grant applications. Our writing highlights the need for services provided by your organization.

Our services include all requirements of the application: constructing a narrative, finalizing the budget, providing guidance on gathering and developing required attachments, and conducting a rigorous quality control review process.

We prioritize effective project management and consistent communication throughout the entire process to ensure that all various components are compiled and the application is completed successfully.

Without a strategic approach to grant funding, the impact of your organization may wither.

PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

“Where are you stuck?”

“Say more about that.”

“What if we tried this?”

“Tell me what you’re trying to do here.”

“How can I help you get unstuck?”

For nine years, Alison repeated these words to the students in her high school English classroom. She worked with students on hundreds of unique writing pieces, helping them identify their purpose and explore different strategies or techniques to convey that purpose effectively.

Inspired by a project that tasked students with using different genres of writing to raise awareness about a current issue, Alison began to explore how she, too, could use writing to facilitate change outside of her classroom. She soon discovered grant writing and committed to putting her skills to use.

Excited by the opportunity to collaborate with nonprofits and use writing to effect positive change, Alison founded Verdant LLC. Her teaching experience and love of language provided an excellent foundation for delivering high-quality grant writing services. Today, her approach to grant consulting is grounded in the processes she worked through with her students—she addresses nonprofits’ needs by listening closely and asking thoughtful questions in order to develop an efficient roadmap and craft writing that resonates.
